RECRUITING NOW MAY 6th 2021 – CAFE STAFF

For the last six years, charity owned, Camden Garden Centres in-house cafe, Pritchard and Ure, has been welcoming customers to our high quality offering of ethically sourced and freshly prepared vegetarian and vegan food alongside speciality coffee, tea and cakes from some of London’s top quality speciality suppliers.

Two weeks ago we opened our exciting new outdoor terrace overlooking the centre’s outdoor plant area. In two weeks we reopen our inside space that overlooks the indoor plant area. This is all set in our historic late twentieth century building, close to the centre of Camden. To coincide with this exciting stage of our development we are on a recruiting drive and have various, mainly part time, roles in all areas of the cafe. We are inviting applications for the roles outlined below and we are looking to start successful applicants immediately.

Please see below for a brief description of the roles on offer. In the first instance please send your cv and a covering letter explaining which role you wish to be considered for which might be more than one. As a charitable organisation focusing on maximising the efforts we make in developing opportunities for work we are restricted in what we can pay but we make up for this in how we try and develop skills and opportunities and try and create a fun albeit at times intense atmosphere.

We are looking for people with lots of enthusiasm and passion who wish to test themselves in an extremely challenging environment as we are experiencing busy times with our popularity and reputation as an excellent cafe grows. Experience is not necessary but desired, especially in the kitchen roles, however we are willing to offer the right people all the support, training and mentoring possible. We pride ourselves in preparing a small but precise menu along with exacting standards with our coffee and drink service. We will invite all successful applicants at this stage to an informal chat over the next few days and will be holding trial shifts and appointing early next week with a view to an immediate start which will be, we think, a baptism of fire. Kitchen

We have a small compact kitchen that is at times a real challenge although we are looking at expansion of the space over the next year. We prepare all food from scratch and mostly in house. We need to work fast, diligently and efficiently at all times and very much as a team. We are hoping to run the kitchen as a two person role so this will require you to work closely with one other person and jointly being responsible for all food preparation, cooking and kitchen management along with the managers, opening and closing of the kitchen on a daily basis which includes maintaining cleanliness throughout busy service. Communication calmness and attention to detail is key.

Bar and Front of House

Predominantly the roles aside from the kitchen will be for front of house service in two distinct areas as we have just added an outside terrace which is a long walk from the kitchen and will need lots of toing and froing. We will also train a number of people as baristas where we use a lever machine and produce coffee to an exacting standard using scales and timers to ensure perfect shots every time. As with all roles these are crucial to the excellent customer experience we aim to deliver and have successfully done so for six years. This will be the biggest team we have ever had and so we are looking as much as anything else for people with a great individual personality that are willing to gel as part of a seamless and connected team.

We will require flexibility in the days you can work as we are open seven days a week as a daytime only cafe. Most roles will be for three to four days but as a seasonal business this will vary. We work as a tight knit team and we are looking for, above all, people with a passion for great service, a can do attitude with a fun friendly demeanour and a desire to learn very much on the job and develop a passion for great food and coffee.
